What defining TRACTION in my organization did for me….
Back in 2016, I was gifted a book called “Traction” written by Gino Wickman and published by BenBella Books, Inc. in 2011. At that time, I was working for a growing organization that had been in the Healthcare Business for several years. I was newer to the organization and recently promoted to the Chief Operating Officer role. I couldn’t help to think of all the possibilities the organization could become if only traction applied ….…. Sadly, that story stops there. I read the book, agreed with the concepts of the Entrepreneurial Operating System (EOS) but life took me in another direction a year later. It wasn’t until 2022 that I revisited this book on the shelf and reacquainted myself with the concepts. I was in the perfect location and the perfect role that required this kind of transformational leadership, we needed to understand our vision to get everyone moving in the same direction and focus on the desired results. Thus, the journey to EOS was initiated and while challenging, it was inspiring on many levels. Getting the right people in the right seats, sharing the vision and alignment of our goals, and focusing on the rocks that get results created a new level of energy and engagement. Goals were achieved and results delivered on time.
Since then, the EOS concepts have been used in organizations that are independent entrepreneurs to organizations with over 20 million in revenue. The results are typically the same, they understand how the tools within EOS align them with their vision and give them the traction needed to meet their goals. One rock at a time until that goal is achieved and a new target set. The “noise” during the workday is diminished, focus commands the priorities, and a better team is aligned to the committed goals. The story does not end here as Gino Wickman wrote “Join me on this journey to better control your business and bust through the ceiling – to have better balance, better results, more fun and more profitability.” Everyday we have the opportunity as leaders to lead our organization or business to new levels.
